LORD CARRINGTON COMMEMORATIVE DINNER – 24 June 2013

With 142 attending, the night was an outstanding social and financial success, raising funds for the Grand Charity Benevolent Fund.

Pre-dinner music was provided by harpiste Belinda Pring. Her selection of music and professionalism set the tone for the remainder of the evening.

Decorations and table layouts provided a friendly and dignified atmosphere and were enhanced by the candelabra organised by RW Bro Warwick Boyling.

The MC, RW Bro John O’Connor OAM, kept to an extremely tight timetable which allowed the night to finish on time at 10.45 pm – a rare event for Masonic functions.

The Commemorative Address by the Guest Speaker, W Bro The Honourable Lloyd Waddy, AM, RFD, QC, was appropriate to the occasion and there have been numerous complimentary comments received along with requests for a copy of the Address.

In thanking Lloyd Waddy the Grand Master also took the opportunity to present him with his 50 year Certificate.

Whilst there was some trepidation in including entertainment in addition to the Guest Speaker, the entertainment donated by The Sydney Lodge and provided by Victoriana from St Paul’s College of Sydney University could not have been more appropriate nor more widely accepted.  Chris North MC, the young Barbershop Quartet, soprano Bernice Zandona from Australian Opera and a talented pianist Dr William Brooks delivered one of the best finishes to any Masonic function in memory.

There are a number of firsts which should be recorded as part of the history of this 105 year old Association. They include:

  • The first time that the Association has organised the Lord Carrington Commemorative Dinner.
  • The first time the holders of the Carrington Medal of Honour have been invited to attend as guests of the Association.
  • The first time that the surplus from the Dinner has been donated to charity.
  • The first time that details leading to the presentation of the Carrington Medal of Honour have been formally presented to recipients.

The President Yvonne McIntyre extended her grateful appreciation to:

  • MW Bro Derek J Robson, AM, Grand Master and Gael Knox
  • MW Bro Greg Levenston Immediate Past Grand Master
  • W Bro the Honourable Lloyd Waddy AM, RFD, QC
  • The Sydney Lodge and RW Bro Warwick Boyling RFD ED
  • RFBI
  • APM Graphics
  • Masterpiece Pictures
  • J O’Connor, Master of Ceremonies
  • R Nieto, Photographer
  • VW Bro Pipe Major S Young

  • RW Bro Alan Farrell (Chairman Lord Carrington Commemorative Dinner Sub-Committee).
  • Mrs Pam Miller
  • RW Bro Douglas James, RFD
  • W Bro Robbie Pesiwarissa PGT

Congratulations to all involved especially Manu and his staff from SMC on the night.

However, none of this could have happened without the consummate skill, foresight and guidance of our President, Yvonne McIntyre and the hard working, innovative, perceptive, and persistent loyalty of Alan Farrell.
