At its first meeting on 20 September 2012, the Committee elected RW Bro McAlpine to the casual vacancy of Vice President.

As far as can be ascertained, this was the first time in the 104 year history of the Freemasons’/Present & Past Grand Lodge Officers Association that elections had been held for the positions of President and one Vice President. These positions were traditionally filled by the Senior Grand Warden and the Junior Grand Warden.

It is a great honour for me to be elected as the first female President of the Association and I will do my utmost to ensure that the high standards set by former Presidents are maintained. It is also a great privilege for me to lead such a strong team of experienced and dedicated Masons. I believe that with your support, we can make a difference.

There are a number of events planned for the coming months which I hope you will find interesting.  They include:

  • 9 October 2012 Regular Lunch Meeting to be held at the Sydney Masonic Centre commencing at 12.00 mid-day for 12.30 pm. RW Bro John Armfield, PDGM, Grand Registrar will be the Guest Speaker and will talk on his recent visit to the UK for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. (Click here for Booking Form)
  • 9 November 2012 Remembrance Day Service and Dinner to be held at the Sydney Masonic Centre. The Service will commence at 6.30 pm and will be followed by a Dinner at 7.15 pm. Lt Colonel David Cooper, OAM, Ret’d, State Secretary and Coordinator for the Battle for Australia Committee, will be the Guest Speaker. (Click here for Booking Form)
  • 2 December 2012 Children’s Christmas Party to be held at Fagan Park, Carrs Rd, via Old Northern Road, Dural commencing at 11.00 am. Santa arrives at 1.00 pm. (Click here for Booking Form)

Details of the above events are shown on the attached Event Registration/Booking Forms.

Several members have spoken to me regarding rumours concerning a proposal by those involved in the STEP Programme to take over the Freemasons’ Association and to adopt a new title “Friends of Freemasonry“. It is understood that STEP organisers have approached other Associations/Orders in regard to the matter.

At a recent conference titled Friends of Freemasonry organised by the Assistant Grand Master, RW Bro Walid Mehanna, it was suggested that the Freemasons Association (NSW & ACT) is ideally placed to act as a hub for the dissemination of information concerning the social/fund raising activities of groups united under the banner of Freemasonry. The Association is happy to fulfil that role if required by other Associations/Orders and correspondence has been forwarded to each of the organisations concerned seeking their views.

Please be assured that the Freemasons’ Association will support the efforts of STEP to promote Freemasonry throughout the jurisdiction in the same way that it will work with all Masonic Associations; however, it will do so as the Freemasons Association and in the same manner as its predecessor, the Present and Past Grand Lodge Officers Association.

In regard to the Association’s future activities, I will be conducting a random survey of the Masonic Family in this jurisdiction in an endeavour to ensure that the Association’s future activities are relevant to Masons and their families. If you have any suggestions or wish to be included in the survey please contact me on (02) 9284.2844 or by email

I look forward to greeting you at one of our future events.

Yours sincerely

Yvonne McIntyre, PhD
